Wild Hike Camp
A hiking and camping adventure through Sweden's southernmost wilderness.
Follow the Sörmlandsleden hiking trail as it winds its way through troll-like virgin forest trails lined with ancient trees and lush green and white mosses. The hike takes you past the Marviken lake system as well as lake Klämmingen, a long line of narrow lakes that were used by the Vikings as they travelled between their capital on Birka and the Baltic sea. Climb up the cliffs that line the lake shores and enjoy beautiful views across lakes and forest as far as the eye can see.
Appreciate the calm and beauty of the mighty forest that surrounds you.
Itinerary
Day 1: Läggesta → Åkers Styckebruk → Mellan Marviken → Lake Klämmingen
Transfer from Läggesta to Skottvång Mine & Museum
Hike from Skottvång to Lake Klämmingen camp ground passing Stenhuggarmon view tower, Marviken lakes, Marviken & Klämmingen viewpoints & Lake Klämmingen
Before setting off on your hike, take some time to explore the beautifully preserved former iron-ore mine at Skottvång Gruva. Stocked up with plenty of food and water for the day you head off on your hike. Your first point of interest is Stenhuggarmon view tower - with its 14 metres it towers over the sea of treetops all around. Dare to climb it and you will experience a true sense of wilderness.
You then head down to Mellan-Marviken lake where you have spectacular views up and down the narrow lake. Hike up the steep cliff that borders the lake and enjoy the reward of stunning lake and forest views. The area has its own unique character because of its geological history - the mountain split in two and as a result Lake Marviken is today bordered by 50 metre high cliffs.
After Ulvsätterberg hill, Glådran lake and Björndalsbergen nature reserve you come to a series of viewpoints over the slender Lake Klämmingen. Take some time here to enjoy the views and calm before you make your way down the hill to your campsite on the shores of Lake Klämmingen, where your camp has been set up for the night.

Day 2: Lake Klämmingen → Fräkenberget → Kattnäs Church → Gnesta
Hike from Lake Klämmingen camp ground to Gnesta passing Fräkenberget view tower, Axsjön lake, Klämmingen viewpoint, Klämmingbergsbadet beach, Södertuna manor and Kattnäs & Frustuna churches
Once you have finished your breakfast, you say farewell to your tent and set off back into a wilderness of forest and hidden lakes. Back on the Sörmlandsleden you pass by Stora Kvarnsjön lake as you make your way to Fräkenberget hilltop with view tower. If you didn't dare climb the view tower at Stenhuggarmon then don't miss your second chance now with the somewhat lower Fräkenberg view tower, enjoying Gnesta's highest point. And you will be rewarded with just as amazing views!
Continue following the orange markers passing lake after lake as you make your way through this remote, roadless environment. Detour to one final viewpoint, with spectacular views across lake Klämmingen, stretching into the distance. Enjoy the peace and calm for one last time!
You now head down to the lake and pass by the Klämmingen beach area where you may well be tempted to take a dip before heading continuing your hike passing Kattnäs & Frustuna churches and Södertuna manor, to Gnesta where you can travel onwards with commuter train, train or bus.
